Colombia is set for a presidential runoff election on June 21 between right-wing lawyer Abelardo De La Espriella and left-wing candidate Ivan Cepeda. De La Espriella secured 43.7% of the votes in the initial round, while Cepeda garnered 40.9%, following the final tally. Cepeda initially delayed acknowledging his defeat, citing concerns over voter registry discrepancies and potential irregularities in over 800,000 identity cards, though he later stated he had no evidence to support these claims. De La Espriella, who presented himself as a political outsider and is nicknamed 'The Tiger,' centered his campaign on enhancing security, reducing the state's size, and stimulating the economy. His proposals include a tough stance on crime, combating drug trafficking and illegal armed groups, and constructing ten megaprisons, alongside strengthening the armed forces. Cepeda, a philosopher and congressman, aims to expand the current government's social programs to address poverty and inequality and foster dialogue with illegal armed groups. Voter turnout for the first round was approximately 58%.
