Freshman left-hander Cord Rager pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits, as Oklahoma defeated Alabama 9-0 in the College World Series on Saturday. Deiten Lachance hit a two-run homer for the Sooners, who continued their strong postseason run.
Rager (6-3) held Alabama hitless until the fifth inning and retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. He struck out eight and walked none, throwing 63 strikes on 88 pitches. In 19 postseason innings, Rager has a 3-run, 11-hit line with 22 strikeouts and one walk.
Lachance, despite an ankle injury sustained in the first inning, hit his 16th homer of the season in the sixth inning to extend Oklahoma's lead to 5-0. Alabama starter Tyler Fay (11-5) gave up five runs in six innings.
The Sooners (39-22) will advance to play Monday against the winner of Saturday night's game between Texas and Georgia. Alabama (42-20) will play in an elimination game Monday against the loser of that matchup. This marks Alabama's first CWS appearance since 1999.
