Brooks Koepka made a late surge with four birdies in his final five holes to card a 6-under 64, placing him in a six-way tie for the lead at the RBC Canadian Open. Koepka, who has been seeking to contend since returning from LIV Golf, attributed his strong putting performance to "freeing the mind."
He is joined at the top by Emiliano Grillo, Sahith Theegala, Eric Cole, Sam Burns, and Canadian Matthew Anderson. Many players posted low scores on the Osprey course at TPC Toronto, with the scoring average at 68.5 and 97 players breaking par.
Among those at 65 was Tony Finau. Canadian Adam Svensson is also in the large group at 64, though he recently missed out on U.S. Open qualifying due to a misunderstanding during a playoff.
Koepka's performance comes after a previous start where he also opened with a 63. He expressed that while his ball striking has been good, putting had been the limiting factor in his recent play.
