Following the identification of a critical counterfeiting vulnerability within its Orchard shielded pool, Zcash's core development teams are moving forward with a proposed solution. ZODL, in collaboration with Tachyon, Valar Group, the Zcash Foundation, and Shielded Labs, has formally introduced Ironwood. This new shielded pool is designed to re-establish users' ability to independently verify the integrity of Zcash's circulating supply. The proposal, announced via ZODL's X account, is slated for activation in late July 2026, after the zcash end-of-support at block height 3,417,100. The development is backed by rigorous assurance measures, including formal verification, independent audits, and AI-assisted security reviews.
