Ripple has launched a significant upgrade, version 3.3.0, for the XRP Ledger (XRPL), introducing six key amendments designed to enhance privacy, settlement efficiency, operational controls, and asset management. This update is a crucial step in Ripple's strategy to centralize tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) on the XRPL for institutional use cases.
The new amendments include Confidential Transfer for encrypted balances and transfers, BatchV1_1 for atomic execution of multiple transactions, DynamicMPT for issuer mutable properties, PermissionDelegationV1_1 for account permission delegation, and Sponsor for entity-sponsored fees and reserves. These features aim to expand the XRPL's capabilities for tokenized assets and financial applications.
In addition to the amendments, the upgrade incorporates bug fixes and performance enhancements, including a 10-15% reduction in memory usage following the previous 3.2.0 release. RippleX's head of product, Jazzi Cooper, confirmed support for global tokenized asset transfers, trading, collateralization, and settlement. Vijay Khanna, Director of Engineering at Ripple, emphasized the extensive testing and development that preceded this release.
Node operators are being urged to upgrade to XRPL v3.3.0 to maintain service continuity, with at least 80% validator support required over two weeks for activation on the mainnet. XRP Ledger Foundation contributor Vet highlighted the inclusion of the world's first XRPL privacy amendment, alongside features for trustless swaps and institutional OTC trading.
Despite the technological advancements, XRP's price has seen a slight decline of over 2% in the past 24 hours, coinciding with a delayed vote on the Clarity Act in the Senate. However, derivatives markets show increased buying activity, with XRP futures open interest rising significantly across exchanges like Binance and OKX, suggesting potential investor interest despite bearish analyst price targets.
