MoonPay has introduced its AI crypto assistant, MoonAgents, to the Telegram messaging platform, enabling users to interact with the service directly through the app. Announced on Thursday, this integration allows users to leverage their AI assistant for tasks such as market analysis, transaction preparation, and monitoring blockchain activity using natural language conversations.
Kevin Arifin, MoonPay Agents Product Lead, explained that the Telegram integration extends the functionality of the existing MoonAgents desktop app, providing users with on-the-go access. "The desktop app is tied to your computer, but sometimes you want to make trades on the go or do analysis when you’re out for a walk," Arifin told Decrypt. "The Telegram integration is the gateway to do that."
Similar to other AI agent projects like OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, MoonAgents utilizes Telegram as its primary interface. Users are instructed to create a custom bot via Telegram's BotFather and then connect it to their MoonAgents desktop application. Arifin highlighted that while Telegram is popular in the crypto community, its selection was also due to its user-friendly bot creation interface, which he noted is simpler than that of other messaging platforms like WhatsApp or iMessage.
MoonPay emphasized that the design of MoonAgents ensures user data and private keys remain secure on the user's computer, making the service independent of Telegram's availability. "All your conversations still exist on your computer, so even if Telegram shuts down tomorrow... you can continue to have a conversation with your agent through the Moon Agent Desktop App," Arifin stated.
This development follows a trend of crypto companies integrating AI into their services. Gemini launched Agentic Trading in April, allowing AI models to execute trades, while Coinbase released Coinbase for Agents in June, enabling AI agents to trade crypto and manage portfolios. Nous Research also released a desktop version of its open-source AI agent, Hermes Agent, in June.
