Galaxy Digital and MARA Holdings have announced separate land acquisitions in Texas to develop data centers for AI, high-performance computing, and Bitcoin mining. These moves reflect growing demand for power-intensive digital infrastructure in the state.
These expansions underscore the increasing demand for power and infrastructure to support AI and digital asset operations, positioning Texas as a critical hub for these burgeoning industries.
Galaxy Digital and MARA Holdings are expanding their presence in Texas through separate land acquisitions aimed at developing infrastructure for power-intensive applications like AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and Bitcoin mining. Galaxy Digital acquired a 500-acre site in McGregor, Texas, with plans to launch its second AI and HPC data center campus in the state, starting with 74 megawatts of power capacity. MARA Holdings announced an agreement to acquire a 1,200-acre powered site in Matagorda County, securing access to up to 2 gigawatts of power for AI, HPC, and Bitcoin mining workloads. These developments coincide with Meta Platforms' disclosure of a $14 billion AI data center campus in El Paso, highlighting Texas's growing appeal for such large-scale infrastructure investments. The state's favorable conditions, including a large power market, competitive electricity costs, ample land, and the independent ERCOT grid, are attracting significant investment in data center and crypto infrastructure.
