The southwest monsoon has officially arrived in Odisha, India, covering parts of the state's northern region as of Friday, June 12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that conditions are favorable for the monsoon to further advance into other areas of Odisha within the next two to three days.
According to Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD's Bhubaneswar centre, the monsoon covered specific districts including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj. The IMD forecasts rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph for several districts on Saturday. These include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati.
