Millions of honeybees were released into a rural Texas neighborhood after a semitrailer carrying approximately 400 hives overturned on Sunday. Officials in Orange County, located east of Houston, shut down local roads and urged residents to stay inside while crews worked to manage the situation and salvage the hives.
Beekeepers from the local community, including Christie Ray of Queen Bee Supply and Chris Moore of Moore Honey, responded to assist. Moore estimated that only about 25% of the hives might survive, largely dependent on the survival of the queen bees. He highlighted the significant financial and operational loss for the beekeeping business.
