Fendt's fully electric e100 Vario tractor series, which is carbon-neutral and emission-free, is now available for purchase in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The company anticipates a Canadian release within the next year, with Eastern Canada being the most probable initial market due to significant municipal demand and greenhouse operations.
Daniel Smith, a senior strategic marketing manager at Fendt, stated that the Canadian rollout will be "co-ordinated" and "methodical" to allow for the collection of dealer and customer feedback. He highlighted the tractor's suitability for municipal tasks such as snow removal and mowing in urban areas. The narrow version of the e107 V Vario, measuring 1.07 meters wide and 2.5 meters high, is particularly designed for confined spaces like vineyards, orchards, polytunnels, and greenhouses, where its lack of exhaust heat is advantageous.
The e100 series tractors, manufactured in Germany, feature a 100 kWh battery and an electric motor offering up to 66 kW (90 h.p.) peak power and 347 Nm of torque. Battery life varies from 2-10 hours depending on the load. Charging can be done via a 22 kW slow charger, taking approximately five hours, or an 80 kW fast charger, completing the charge in just over an hour. Fendt's strategy involves leveraging the existing modular frame and components from its 200 series diesel tractors to ensure easier dealer support and parts availability for the new electric models.
