Farmers are being advised that between 30mm to 70mm of rain is expected over the coming week, which is approximately 200% to 300% of the climatological norm. Met Éireann's latest farming commentary indicates that the highest rainfall accumulations are anticipated in the west of the country. Over the past seven days, rainfall totals varied, with some areas in the north-east and south-west experiencing wetter than normal conditions (170%-285%), while others were drier (65%-100%). Shannon recorded the highest rainfall at 44mm, while Cork Airport had the lowest at 12mm. The weather was also warmer than average over the last week, with mean soil temperatures between 14.6° and 18.4°, which is 3° to 6° above normal. The upcoming week is forecast to be cooler, with temperatures ranging between 10° and 13°, 1° to 3° below normal. Sunshine amounts were around average or slightly below in the past week, with Dublin Airport recording 46 hours (110% of norm) and Valentia recording 28.4 hours. Conditions are expected to become cloudier, with sunshine amounts closer to average or below. Drying conditions will be poor, with limited opportunities for spraying due to frequent rain and blustery winds. Soil moisture deficits are expected to decrease from 10mm in the south to 50mm in the east, with soils generally becoming close to saturation.
