Key facts
- Recycled critical metals supplied enough material in 2025 to meet more than a tenth of China’s power-battery production needs.
- This share could eventually exceed 50% as retired electric-vehicle batteries pile up.
- Recycled materials could cover more than 15% of domestic battery production demand by 2030.
Recycled critical metals from used electric vehicle batteries were sufficient to meet more than 10% of China’s power battery production requirements in 2025. This proportion is expected to grow significantly, potentially exceeding 50%, as the volume of retired electric vehicle batteries increases, according to a new industry report.
Chen Mo, an official at the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, stated that recycled materials could fulfill over 15% of the domestic demand for battery production by the year 2030.
