China is preparing for a substantial influx of retired electric vehicle (EV) batteries as they reach the end of their usable life. In response, Beijing has initiated a nationwide campaign to strengthen oversight of its burgeoning battery recycling industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in conjunction with four other government agencies, launched the crackdown in April, which is set to continue through the end of June. This initiative follows the implementation of new regulations that obligate EV manufacturers and battery producers to collect power cells that have reached their end-of-life.
