A recent report by Cyprus's Audit Office has brought to light a substantial deficiency in the licensing of tourist accommodations across the island. The findings reveal that a mere 23% of tourist accommodation establishments currently possess a full operating license. This means that a considerable majority, specifically 55% of these units, are operating without being in full legal compliance with the relevant regulations.
The Deputy Ministry of Tourism has acknowledged the persistent nature of this problem. It has been noted that a significant portion of these accommodations, over half of all units, have never initiated the process by applying for a license. This lack of application further complicates efforts to ensure legal compliance and proper oversight within the tourism sector.
