Toyota is undertaking a significant restructuring of its motorsport operations, including a rebranding of its premier racing division and the introduction of a new hypercar for the 2026 season.
The company is spinning off Gazoo Racing (GR) to focus on high-performance road cars, such as a successor to the GR Supra. Concurrently, its top-tier endurance racing arm is being rebranded as TOYOTA RACING GmbH, with the change officially taking effect on January 7, 2026.
This strategic shift means that Toyota's entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will compete under the TOYOTA RACING banner starting in 2026. They will feature a new hypercar, the TR010 HYBRID, which replaces the current GR010. The TR010 HYBRID's design is said to echo styling cues from the recently revealed GR GT concept, which is slated for production.
While the GR badge will be phased out from top-tier WEC competition, Gazoo Racing will remain active in rallying and customer motorsport. The GR brand will be supported by the engineering capabilities of the newly branded TOYOTA RACING.
In the recent 93rd 24 Hours of Le Mans, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's GR010 HYBRIDs faced a challenging race. The #7 car, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries, finished sixth after overcoming first-lap damage and a pit lane speeding penalty. The #8 car, with Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa, led at one stage but a mechanical issue caused a significant time loss, resulting in a sixteenth-place finish.
The TR010 HYBRID's powertrain details have not yet been disclosed, but the current GR010 utilizes a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 paired with a front-axle electric motor, producing a regulated 671 horsepower.
