Tata Electronics, a key manufacturing partner for Apple and Tesla, has confirmed a cybersecurity incident after the ransomware group World Leaks claimed to have exfiltrated and published over 200,000 files. The leaked data allegedly includes sensitive design and specification documents, some marked as trade secrets, for components used by both tech giants.
Researchers who reviewed the data on the dark web reported finding over 630 gigabytes of information, including emails, event logs, and passport copies of employees. Specific files purportedly related to Apple's 'factorydata' and Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 components were identified.
Tata Electronics stated that its response protocols were immediately deployed and that the incident has not impacted its business operations. Apple is reportedly investigating the breach, and sources suggest Tata received a ransom demand. This incident marks another setback for Apple's supply chain in India, where Tata is a significant manufacturing partner, contributing roughly one-third of Apple's iPhone production in the country.
