Villa Certosa, the Sardinian estate of the late Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has reportedly been sold for €350 million to Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani, Qatar's former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. The sale, which closes a significant chapter in Berlusconi's political legacy, comes about a year after his family placed the property on the market.
The notorious villa, known for hosting controversial 'bunga bunga' parties during Berlusconi's tenure, was the site of legal proceedings related to underage prostitution, though Berlusconi himself was ultimately acquitted of corruption and abuse of office charges.
The buyer is said to be acting through a Luxembourg-based investment vehicle associated with the Al Thani family, which has ruled Qatar for over 150 years. This acquisition expands the family's existing investments in Sardinia, which include luxury tourism and healthcare facilities.
The sale also aids in settling the financial affairs of Silvio Berlusconi's estate, with his heirs managing his will following his death in 2023. Significant bequests include €100 million each to his former partner Marta Fascina and his brother Paolo Berlusconi.
