SaaS investor Jason Lemkin only backs companies with 6-day in-office work week

Lemkin argued that individuals in the tech industry face a clear choice: pursue substantial wealth through demanding work or settle for a more moderate income with a relaxed schedule. He specifically mentioned that while remote work might be functional for some, it introduces too many distractions, impacting his own team's output. Consequently, he is uninterested in funding companies that do not require full-time, in-office commitment from their employees.

He aligned with Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen's critical view of remote work, which Petersen described as 'white-collar fraud' due to inherent distractions. Lemkin, however, suggested Petersen's perspective might be somewhat dated, as he believes leading companies and their investors already recognize the limitations of remote setups. Lemkin's preference is for small, highly compensated teams that work together in person, asserting that businesses not adopting this model are likely to fail.

Lemkin further posited that older companies like Flexport might struggle to modernize their teams and compete with the agility of contemporary startups. He suggested that such established firms face challenges in adapting employees who are unwilling to change their work habits. This push for smaller, in-office teams reflects a broader trend in Silicon Valley aimed at reducing bureaucracy and increasing responsiveness in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
