The parents of former Maryland and Charlotte football player Isaiah Hazel have launched the Isaiah Lee Hazel Foundation in his honor, following his death in a car crash in July 2024. Hazel, 23, was killed alongside former college teammates Khyree Jackson, 24, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, when the vehicle Hazel was driving was struck by another car traveling at a high speed. Maryland State Police are investigating the incident, with alcohol potentially being a factor. At the foundation's launch event, the first Isaiah Lee Hazel Memorial Scholarship was awarded to walk-on defensive lineman Joshua Simmons to assist with meal expenses. Hazel played for Maryland between 2019-2022, appearing in 39 games, and later played for Charlotte. Jackson was a fourth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft. All three were high school teammates at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School.
