CEO Kaz Nejatian announced the decision, stating that operational work is more effective when performed closer to the company's US customer base.
Nejatian explained in an internal memo that Opendoor previously relied on a large India-based workforce for manual workflows across fragmented systems. The company has since consolidated these systems and created smaller, AI-native teams in the United States capable of handling customer-facing operations more efficiently. "Our customers are in America, and that's where our operational work belongs," Nejatian wrote.
The layoffs affect nearly all India-based employees, though a small number will remain temporarily to support the transition of critical workstreams.
