Liverpool has officially completed the signing of French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Ligue 1 side Rennes, the club announced. The 20-year-old center back has agreed to a long-term contract, with a reported transfer fee of 70 million euros ($80 million).
Jacquet, a France Under-21 international, progressed through Rennes' academy and made 33 senior appearances for the club. His past season was cut short in February due to a shoulder injury, but he has successfully completed rehabilitation and is undergoing individual fitness work. He expects to be fully recovered for the start of pre-season training.
Jacquet expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, calling it a "big dream" and noting the club's impressive facilities. He will join a group of center-backs that includes club captain Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Giovanni Leoni, following Ibrahima Konate's departure to Real Madrid.
Liverpool players are scheduled to return on July 14, with the team set to travel to the U.S. for a pre-season tour on July 20.
