Functional beverage brand Javvy, known for its protein coffee powders, is exploring a sale that could value the company at approximately $1 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter. The South Carolina-based company generates nearly $300 million in annual revenue and has engaged investment bank Houlihan Lokey to manage the early-stage sale process.
Javvy's potential sale comes as demand for protein-rich and other functional products rises among consumers, a trend that major food and beverage companies are seeking to capitalize on. Starbucks, for example, has expanded its menu to include protein lattes and ready-to-drink protein coffee beverages.
Founded in 2020 by Justin Kemperman and Brandon Monaghan, Javvy offers products such as mix-with-water protein powders containing 10 grams of protein per serving, prebiotics, and medium-chain triglycerides. The company also sells protein refreshers, coffee syrups, and creamers. Javvy products are available at retailers including Walmart, Target, and Sprouts Farmers Market. Venture capital firms such as Amberstone Ventures, Platinum Mile Ventures, and Selva Ventures have previously invested in the company.
