Imas has introduced its new Multimilla + roller mill, a piece of machinery designed with a focus on strength, durability, and hygiene, incorporating the latest technological advancements. The mill was officially unveiled by Imas during the IDMA Istanbul exhibition, which took place between June 25-27, 2026.
The Multimilla + roller mill is built with an 'untraditional structural design approach' that emphasizes robustness and cleanliness, crucial for food safety standards. It features stainless steel contact surfaces, rounded internal corners, and minimized dead areas. A key innovation is the Mineral Casting Carrier Chassis®, developed by Imas's R&D team, which reportedly offers 20 times better vibration damping than welded steel, enhancing operational reliability and long-term durability.
The feeding system includes infrared level sensors for precise management and a Feed Roll Rotation Sensor for safety. It also comes standard with a direct drive system for feeding rolls, promising efficiency and reduced maintenance. For the grinding technology, Imas offers new generation torque motors as an option, which are more energy-efficient than traditional induction motors and provide smooth, reliable operation.
A standout feature is the i-GPC® Active Grinding Pressure Control system, which automates the adjustment of the grinding gap, ensuring high efficiency, extraction, and consistency through real-time monitoring of grinding pressure. The user-friendly design facilitates easy operation, cleaning, and maintenance, with fully opening front covers and a removable sliding feeding group. The grinding rolls can be changed quickly, in approximately 15 minutes. Additionally, the optional SMARTLUB® system provides centralized, automated lubrication maintenance for the roller mills.
Murat Apakhan, deputy general manager of production and R&D at Imas, highlighted the benefits of torque motors, noting their energy-saving potential, especially in a competitive global environment. A reference plant in Italy has been using this technology since 2021, observing up to a 25% reduction in electricity consumption for roller mills equipped with torque motors. Imas plans further testing in Turkey to analyze energy consumption more deeply before offering the torque motor-equipped roller mills globally.
