A Delhi resident has been awarded a full refund and compensation after purchasing a 3-ton Fujitsu split air conditioner that failed to provide adequate cooling. Vaibhav Singh Bhadana bought the AC for Rs 1.14 lakh on February 17, 2025, and incurred an additional Rs 15,329 for a specialized installation stand. Upon first use on May 11, 2025, he discovered the cooling issue.
Bhadana lodged numerous service requests between May 18 and May 21, 2025. A technician's visit reportedly did not resolve the problem, with the technician citing low gas levels and allegedly causing scratches to the unit. Subsequent attempts to contact the technician were unsuccessful.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (East), Delhi, found Fujitsu General India liable for deficiency in service. The commission noted the volume of complaints indicated an inherent product defect. Crucially, Fujitsu General India did not appear before the forum or file a response, leaving the customer's claims unrebutted.
The commission ordered Fujitsu General India to refund the Rs 1.14 lakh purchase price, along with 7% annual interest from the complaint date, subject to the return of the AC. Additionally, Rs 25,000 was awarded as compensation and Rs 10,000 for litigation costs. The company was given 30 days to comply, with a higher interest rate of 9% per annum applicable if they fail to do so.
