CESCO EPC begins construction of grain facility for Molini Valente

The expansion features eight HBS 12,20/16/45 hopper bottom silos, each equipped with continuous temperature monitoring to preserve grain quality during storage. These silos are sized to hold the equivalent of a full train shipment, allowing for the complete segregation of individual grain lots and their subsequent homogenization. This capability will enable the mill to manage variations in grain quality, moisture content, and origin more effectively, contributing to more consistent milling performance.

Grain handling within the new facility will utilize a bucket elevator, chain conveyors, and a belt conveyor engineered to minimize product degradation and dust generation. Aspiration filters will be installed throughout the system for dust control, adhering to environmental and workplace safety standards. CESCO EPC also designed the project's walkways, platforms, access stairs, compressed air network, and steel support structures using 3D CAD and finite element analysis, adhering to Eurocode standards.

A significant design consideration is the flood-resilient storage. Given the site's history of periodic flooding, hopper bottom silos were chosen over conventional flat bottom silos. Additionally, the bottom shell course of each silo wall has been replaced with a steel bracing system, facilitating easy access for inspection, cleaning, and drying after potential flood events.

Molini Valente stated that the added storage capacity will improve grain homogenization by maintaining separation between incoming lots and offering greater flexibility in blend preparation. Continuous temperature monitoring will aid in the early detection of moisture accumulation or heating, preserving grain quality before processing.

Construction is currently focused on erecting the silos and connecting catwalks. The installation of the bucket elevator, elevator tower, and conveying equipment is scheduled for the autumn, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The expansion is being built within an operational milling facility on a confined site adjacent to the railway, necessitating careful integration with existing operations to ensure uninterrupted production during construction.
