Hari Menon, cofounder and longtime CEO of the online grocery platform BigBasket, has stepped down from his role. The company, owned by Tata Digital, announced that Amazon veteran Amit Nanda will take over as the new CEO.
Menon and fellow cofounder Vipul Parekh will continue to serve on the BigBasket board. Nanda, who previously served as director of selling partner services at Amazon, is tasked with leading the company's next phase of growth, with a focus on enhancing its quick commerce capabilities and fostering innovation.
Tata Group gained control of BigBasket in 2021, acquiring Alibaba's stake in a deal that valued the company between $1.5 billion and $2 billion. BigBasket fully transitioned to a quick commerce model in August 2024. Despite facing increased competition and a slip in turnover in FY25, industry executives suggest BigBasket's rapid delivery service, BB Now, is regaining market share. BB Now currently operates approximately 500 dark stores and fulfills an estimated 450,000 to 500,000 orders daily.
