Audi has officially unveiled its new flagship full-size SUV, the 2027 Q9, marking the German automaker's entry into a segment dominated by rivals like the Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Benz GLS. Designed with the US market as a primary focus, the Q9 aims to capture a larger segment than Audi's existing Q7.
The Q9 measures 209 inches (5,309 mm) in length, 79.2 inches (2,012 mm) in width, and 71.4 inches (1,814 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 123.5 inches (3,137 mm), which is significantly longer than the Q7's to accommodate a more spacious third row.
Built on the Volkswagen Group's new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, the Q9 will initially be offered with a 2.9L V6 engine. A higher-performance SQ9 variant will feature a twin-turbo V8 engine, distinguished by wider wheel arches, larger alloy wheels, and a unique illuminated grille. Audi states the SQ9's all-wheel-drive system will be rear-biased for daily driving.
Notable features include active-matrix LED headlights that can selectively dim to avoid dazzling other drivers and project driving aids onto the road. New turn signals will also project indicators onto the roadway for increased visibility to pedestrians and cyclists.
The interior offers flexible seating configurations, with options for a six-seater layout featuring captain's chairs in the second row or a seven-seater with a three-seat bench. Cargo capacity ranges from 19.3 cubic feet (547 L) with the third row in use, up to 87.7 cubic feet (2,483 L) with all seats folded flat. Both the Q9 and SQ9 will have a towing capacity of 7,700 lbs (3,492 kg).
The 2027 Audi Q9 is scheduled to go on sale in the fourth quarter, with a starting price of $87,700 for the standard model and $118,000 for the SQ9.
