Charlotte-based Atrium Health, part of Advocate Health, has filed plans to construct its first hospital in Metro Atlanta. The proposed facility, a 50-bed acute care general teaching hospital, is slated for a 40-acre campus in Fulton County. This initiative aims to provide care to underserved patients, particularly those previously served by WellStar Atlanta Medical Center and its affiliate, which closed in 2022.
The hospital is expected to feature an emergency department and offer services such as perinatal and neonatal care, diagnostic imaging, and surgeries. It will be affiliated with the Morehouse School of Medicine, with the campus located approximately half a mile from the medical school's main campus.
Atrium Health acquired the 40-acre site, which includes a historic warehouse, in 2024. The hospital is intended to be the anchor of a mixed-use development featuring office, retail, residential, and medical facilities. City officials previously announced a collaboration with Morehouse and a nonprofit health system for an $800 million hospital project, though the nonprofit and location were not disclosed at the time.
Atrium Health currently operates two other facilities in Georgia: Atrium Health Navicent in Macon and Atrium Health Floyd in Rome.
