Airbus is reportedly in discussions to sell A330neo widebody aircraft to Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier Flynas, with a potential announcement expected as early as the upcoming Farnborough Airshow. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Flynas is looking to firm up options for eight A330s.
Separately, a report suggested that German airline Condor Flugdienst was in discussions for approximately six Airbus A330neos, though this was downplayed by some sources.
Flynas plans to order fifteen A330-900s from Airbus, which would mark its first contract for widebody aircraft directly from the manufacturer. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed during the 2024 Farnborough Airshow, also includes 75 incremental A320neo Family aircraft, with options for an additional fifty-five A320neo and fifteen A330neo.
Flynas CEO and Managing Director Bander Almohanna stated that the A330neo will enhance the airline's long-haul capabilities with its advanced technology and efficiency, supporting growth plans and Saudi Arabia's pilgrim program. The airline currently operates four second-hand A330-300s and wet-leases an additional four A330-300s and six A330-900s to support Hajj and Umrah charters. The airline had previously issued a request for proposals for up to 30 widebody aircraft earlier this year.
Once finalized, Flynas's MoU with Airbus will increase its commitment for new-generation narrowbody aircraft to 139. The carrier currently has fifty-four A320-200Ns and ten A321-200NY(XLR)s on order, in addition to fifty-three A320-200Ns already in its fleet. It also operates four remaining A320-200s.
