Japanese footwear giant ABC-MART is significantly expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, with the recent opening of its first Grand Stage concept store in Manila, Philippines. This move is part of a strategic initiative led by President Kiichiro Hattori to boost international development, aiming to lift overseas sales from under a third to half of the company's total revenue.
The new flagship store, located in Bonifacio Global City, spans two levels and 750 square meters, offering a premium selection of sneakers and lifestyle footwear from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, and ASICS. This upscale concept, first introduced in Japan in the 2010s, focuses on higher-end sneakers, exclusivity, and an enhanced customer experience, also featuring apparel and accessories.
The Manila launch is a result of a joint venture between ABC-MART Japan and Sonak Retail Group, a Philippine retailer with over 40 stores. This partnership plans to further expand both the Grand Stage and more accessible Standard store formats across the Philippines. ABC-MART has previously expanded to South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam, with the Philippines marking its latest entry into the Southeast Asian market.
