South Korea is actively seeking public input to curate a comprehensive directory of 10,000 must-visit tourist destinations across the nation. The ambitious "100x100 Project to Uncover Korea’s Attractions," spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), has already garnered over 30,000 votes.
Initially launched with a tight schedule, organizers have extended the voting period to July 17 to accommodate wider participation. The campaign spans eight distinct travel pillars, including architecture, leisure and sports, nature and ecology, lifestyle, K-content, culture and tradition, gastronomy, and travel preferences. These pillars are further refined by a panel of 100 travel experts who have identified 100 microthemes, with the public voting for the top destinations within each.
Kim Suk, director of the national tourism division at the KTO, noted the campaign's broad reach, with continuous inquiries from local municipalities. He emphasized that the final voting results will be leveraged to drive physical travel and stimulate regional economies. The KTO has also provided a list of recommended destinations, including Seoul Botanic Park, the National Museum of Korea, and Eurwangni Beach.
