Samsung Electronics Co. has set a new preorder record in South Korea for its latest Galaxy Z foldable smartphone lineup, the company announced Tuesday. A total of 1.44 million orders were received for devices including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. This figure surpasses the previous record of 1.38 million orders set by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019.
The company attributed the strong performance to its advanced foldable phone technology, the appeal of the new form factors, and consumer benefits offered during the presale period, which ran from Wednesday to Monday. The new Galaxy Z series phones are equipped with Alphabet Inc.'s Gemini artificial intelligence, designed to provide personalized AI experiences tailored to different user lifestyles.
The new foldable phone lineup is scheduled for a gradual release in approximately 100 countries starting Friday.
