Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech on August 15, outlined a vision for the country's growth, dubbed 'seven streams of power' or 'Sapt Shakti'. These streams encompass globally competitive manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, high-speed connectivity (Gati Shakti), defense self-reliance (Raksha Shakti), green and blue economy, and India's soft power. Modi challenged Indian industries to aim for global leadership, specifically calling for 50 Indian companies to be featured in the Fortune 500 list within the next decade. He stressed the importance of maintaining product quality to build trust both domestically and internationally. The Prime Minister highlighted significant progress in various sectors over the past 12 years, including a nearly fourfold increase in defense production, a fivefold rise in output from Khadi and village industries, a sevenfold expansion in electronics manufacturing, a 21-fold increase in modern railway coach production, and a 33-fold surge in mobile phone production. In technology and innovation, Modi declared India's ambition to become a global hub for AI, Quantum, Space, Robotics, DPI, and 6G, announcing free online coaching for competitive exams and training for one crore youth in Artificial Intelligence over the next year. He also emphasized the need for integrated farm-to-export supply chains and transitioning to chemical-free farming, while urging Indian banks, pharmaceutical firms, technology companies, and consulting firms to achieve leading global positions.
