Mercedes-Benz India has launched the facelifted 2026 S-Class in the country, introducing its first-ever plug-in hybrid variant for the Indian market, the S 450e. The new model is available in two trims: the S 450e Launch Edition Exclusive Line priced at Rs 2.20 crore and the S 450e Manufaktur Edition AMG Line at Rs 2.38 crore, both ex-showroom.
The S 450e is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine integrated with an electric motor and a 22 kWh battery pack, delivering a combined output of 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque. This setup allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and achieve a WLTP-rated fuel efficiency of 32.2 kmpl. Mercedes-Benz claims an impressive electric-only range of up to 115 km, positioning it as a leading option among plug-in hybrid luxury sedans in India. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes using a 60 kW DC fast charger.
Design enhancements for the facelift include a larger grille with chrome inserts, an optional illuminated surround, and revised Digital Light LED headlamps with star-themed graphics. The rear features tail-lamps with illuminated star motifs and animated lighting sequences. The front bumper has also been redesigned with larger air intake elements, complemented by new alloy wheel designs and fresh paint options.
India receives the long-wheelbase version as standard, featuring a four-seat configuration with executive rear seats that recline up to 43.5 degrees. All seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Enhanced sound insulation and an expanded ambient lighting package further elevate the cabin experience.
The interior is highlighted by the new MBUX Superscreen, which integrates a 14.4-inch OLED central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch front passenger display, all running on Mercedes-Benz's MB. OS software. The MBUX virtual assistant boasts deeper AI integration, and navigation is enhanced with Google Maps support for the augmented-reality head-up display. Rear passengers are provided with dual 13.1-inch screens supporting streaming, gaming, and video conferencing. Additional amenities include a Burmester 4D surround sound system, wireless smartphone connectivity, four-zone climate control, and connected-car functions.
Safety features are comprehensive, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. The vehicle also offers Mercedes-Benz's E-Active Body Control suspension and rear-wheel steering.
