Japan is set to launch eight communications infrastructure projects, primarily focused on the Indo-Pacific region, as part of its strategy to enhance economic security and promote a 'free and open Indo-Pacific.' The initiative, spearheaded by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, will involve advancements in undersea cables and satellite communications.
This effort aligns with the broader vision shared by India and Japan for a peaceful, prosperous, and rule-of-law-based Indo-Pacific. The two nations aim to strengthen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with plans for an India-Japan Economic Security Initiative. This initiative seeks to bolster supply chains for critical goods and materials and foster cooperation in advanced technologies, including semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and telecommunications.
As part of their economic partnership, India and Japan have set new targets for private investment, aiming for JPY 10 trillion in private investment from Japan to India, building on a previous target of JPY 5 trillion between 2022 and 2026. The countries also intend to enhance bilateral trade and investment, strengthen industrial cooperation, and explore opportunities in ICT and agri-business.
