Hong Kong and Macau can work together to attract tourists rather than compete, according to officials and industry leaders in the gaming hub. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macau Government Tourism Office, said the two cities have a history of collaboration and should continue to build on this relationship.
Speaking ahead of an Apec tourism ministers’ meeting in Macau, Fernandes noted that Hong Kong and Macau offer distinct experiences and can benefit from sharing visitor flows by leveraging their respective strengths. She highlighted Hong Kong International Airport as a key transport hub for the Greater Bay Area and pointed to the 2018 opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge as significantly improving regional connectivity and making multi-destination travel more convenient.
Fernandes added that Macau should collaborate not only with the Hong Kong Tourism Board but also with the city’s wider tourism industry to promote the Greater Bay Area.
