Malaysian conglomerate Genting Property has launched Johor Tech Smart City, a significant RM80 billion ($20 billion USD) integrated development in Kulai, Johor. The 2,300-acre project is situated within the emerging Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and aims to establish the region as a hub for innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and agricultural technology (AgTech).
The development is divided into two main components: a 500-acre AgTech Campus focused on food security and agricultural innovation, and a 1,700-acre Knowledge AI Campus. The AgTech Campus will include initiatives for crop research and development, smart cultivation, and a commercial hub featuring farm-to-table experiences. The Knowledge AI Campus will host a 430-acre innovation hub, inspired by Huawei's development blueprint, alongside residential, recreational, and wellness facilities.
The project, launched by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Genting Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, is a collaboration between Genting Property and its agriculture technology subsidiary ACGT Sdn Bhd. It is expected to create over 10,000 jobs and attract global professionals, reinforcing Johor's economic growth and innovation ecosystem.
International technology and planning firms, including Huawei, B+H, and Surbana Jurong, are partnering on the project. A 100-acre solar farm is also planned to support the development's energy needs. The blueprint for the JS-SEZ is currently being finalized and is anticipated to be signed by the Malaysian and Singaporean governments by the end of the year.
