Four distinct products originating from Assam have been officially recognized with Geographical Indication (GI) tags, a designation that signifies unique origin and quality. The products include the Bihu Pepa, a traditional musical instrument; Bah Silpa, which encompasses various bamboo crafts; and the handloom products from Karbi Anglong and Deori regions.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on Monday, expressing pride in the recognition of Assam's rich heritage. He stated on the social media platform X that this achievement is a significant step in conserving and promoting the state's traditional products. Sarma further emphasized that this certification will ensure that producers associated with these items receive appropriate value for their authentic goods, thereby safeguarding them in the market.
