Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, formerly known as xAI, has completed its rebrand to SpaceXAI. The integration signifies a consolidation of Musk's technology interests, bringing his AI products, including the Grok chatbot, under the umbrella of his space exploration company, SpaceX.
The acquisition of xAI by SpaceX occurred earlier this year, effectively placing Musk's space, AI, and social media platforms under a single corporate structure. The official rebranding was marked by an update to the company's X (formerly Twitter) account handle and the unveiling of a new SpaceXAI logo.
This strategic move follows SpaceX's historic initial public offering in June, which raised $75 billion and valued the company at approximately $1.77 trillion. Filings related to the IPO revealed that SpaceX has been making substantial investments in AI, with capital expenditures projected to reach $12.7 billion in 2025, surpassing its spending on space and connectivity segments like Starlink. Despite its AI segment currently operating at a net loss, SpaceX views it as having the largest addressable market in history.
SpaceX has also secured significant deals for AI infrastructure, with Anthropic agreeing to pay $1.25 billion per month for access to compute power at its Colossus data centers, and Google committing to a $920 million monthly payment for similar services. The company has ambitious plans to deploy AI compute satellites, essentially data centers in space, as early as 2028.
