Valve has announced that its TV-friendly gaming PC, the Steam Machine, will go on sale on June 29, with a starting price of $1,049. The company cited the significant increase in component costs, particularly for storage and RAM, driven by the AI boom over the past year, as the primary reason for the high price point. This surge in component prices has affected the entire PC and gaming console market, leading to price hikes for devices like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Steam Machine will be available in two configurations: a 512GB model for $1,049 and a 2TB model for $1,349. Both can be bundled with a Steam Controller for an additional $79. The device is powered by a custom six-core AMD Zen 4 CPU and an integrated AMD RDNA3 GPU with 8GB of VRAM, designed to run demanding PC games on a TV with upscaling technology.
To manage demand and combat resellers, Valve will utilize a randomized reservation system. Customers with a valid Steam account who made a purchase before April 27, 2026, can sign up for a reservation before June 25. Following the reservation period, a randomization process will determine the order for the initial batch of shipments, which are expected to begin on June 29. Those not selected for the first batch will be placed on a waitlist for future production runs.
