Valar Atomics has announced a significant $1 billion equity funding round, spearheaded by Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire, who will also join the company's board. Additionally, the nuclear startup secured a $200 million line of credit from Erebor and other financial institutions. While the company's valuation was not disclosed, reports suggest it stands at $6 billion.
Valar Atomics is focused on building small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), which are designed to be more cost-effective and quicker to deploy than traditional nuclear power plants. In June, the company successfully demonstrated its Ward 250 reactor powering an Nvidia Blackwell system and announced a collaboration with Nvidia to develop a waterless 30MW AI factory.
The startup claims its reactors generate crucial data that accelerates the development of next-generation reactors. Valar stated that the recent funding will enable it to reach its next major objective: manufacturing fleets of its SMRs. The company noted the rapid progress in its reactor development, moving from a two-year completion time for the NOVA core to seven months for the Ward 250 to become critical, with plans to scale production significantly.
