Threads hits 500M monthly users, adds feed personalization and community features

The 'Your Algo' feature allows users to privately customize their feeds by specifying content preferences for durations of one, three, or seven days. This feature is currently available in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Additionally, the 'Communities' feature, initially launched in beta, is now fully available. It provides topic-focused groups for users to discover and participate in conversations. A dedicated 'Communities Hub' and new discovery tools aim to make it easier for users to find relevant discussions. Instagram head Connor Hayes noted the Discovery Hub's role in improving user experience.

Live Chats, a real-time conversation tool introduced in April, will be expanded to all communities by July. This feature will allow for co-hosting and direct quoting of moments to the feed, serving as a companion experience for users watching events.

The milestone of 500 million monthly active users represents a growth of 100 million users over the past 10 months. Threads has been consistently adding features to compete with X, including direct messages, ghost posts, and desktop messaging.
