Superhuman, an email client that was acquired by Grammarly, has introduced an updated auto-draft feature designed to help users manage overflowing inboxes. Unlike previous iterations that produced overly enthusiastic and robotic responses, this new version aims to generate replies that are more personalized and less artificial. The feature analyzes incoming emails, identifies those requiring a response, and drafts replies that match the user's tone from past conversations. It also offers alternative response variations for users to select from.
In testing, the feature demonstrated an ability to draft responses for various scenarios, such as agreeing to meeting times or declining requests for authored posts. While not perfect, with initial drafts sometimes suggesting inconvenient meeting times, the AI learns from user feedback. For example, after a "midnight meeting debacle," the system later generated a response indicating that a similar time did not work for the user.
Superhuman's co-founder, Rahul Vohra, stated that during the beta phase, 40% of the auto-generated drafts were sent within a day, and 60% of those were sent without any manual editing. Vohra explained that the new implementation uses a combination of advanced models from Anthropic and OpenAI, offering greater intelligence and context compared to older models like GPT-3.5 used in earlier features. The company is also developing Superhuman Go, a cross-platform assistant designed to maintain context across different applications.
