Superhuman has acquired GPTZero, a three-year-old startup focused on detecting AI-generated content. The acquisition was announced on Tuesday. Edward Tian, who initially developed GPTZero as a senior thesis project at Princeton, stated that the company had amassed over 19 million registered users and generated $30 million in annual recurring revenue. GPTZero had previously raised $3.5 million in seed funding led by Uncork Capital and a $10 million Series A round in June 2024 led by Footwork, bringing its total funding to $13.5 million.
Superhuman, which rebranded after acquiring an email provider, already had an AI detection tool integrated into its platform. The company stated that the acquisition of GPTZero, whose mission is to help humans detect and defend against AI-generated text, was based on the principle that "two AI detectors are better than one."
