Substack launches AI detection tool for newsletters

This move aims to foster transparency and trust among readers, particularly as AI plays an increasing role in content creation across various digital platforms. While the short-term business impact might be uncertain due to potential exposure of AI-heavy newsletters, Substack believes that in the long run, such features can help maintain content quality and user confidence.

Substack CEO Chris Best stated that the tool is intended to encourage writers to disclose their use of AI, aligning with the platform's philosophy that the "hard part" of creating valuable ideas should remain human-driven. The feature will be available for content over 100 characters, and writers will have the option to include an AI author's note to explain their creative process. Publishers can also use the tool on their own drafts before publication.
