Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has announced a significant expansion of its overseas robotaxi pipeline, now encompassing over 4,000 planned and potential vehicle deployments. This growth is underpinned by the company's strong second-quarter financial performance, which saw total revenue climb 68.8% year-over-year to $36.2 million. Notably, revenue from robotaxi services surged by 691.2%, constituting one-third of the total revenue for the first time.
Pony.ai's expansion into Europe and the Middle East is built upon its demonstrated success in achieving city-level unit economics breakeven in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. This commercial track record is a key differentiator for its international strategy. The company has partnered with Uber and Verne, a mobility company within the Rimac Group, to deploy its Level 4 autonomous driving technology.
This tripartite partnership, which has already launched Europe's first commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, will now extend to four additional European cities and the Middle East. Pony.ai will supply the autonomous driving technology and operational expertise, Uber will provide customer access via its ride-hailing network and payment processing, and Verne will serve as the local fleet owner and operator, managing regulatory approvals. This strategic approach allows Pony.ai to leverage established platforms and local expertise for rapid market entry.
