Meta Platforms has launched a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, branded as Meta Glasses, in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. They feature a camera, personal speakers, and a customizable button to activate the Meta AI assistant. Meta claims the glasses offer over 8 hours of battery life, with a charging case providing up to 40 additional hours of usage.
The Meta Glasses come in three frame shapes: the rectangular Meta Adventurer, the boxier Meta Fury, and an oval frame designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner for the "Meta Glasses by Kylie" edition. The lineup offers a variety of color and lens combinations, and is compatible with prescription lenses.
The integrated Meta AI assistant can answer questions, understand visual input, and assist with daily tasks. Future software updates will enable pedestrian navigation and support for live translation in 14 new languages, including Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, and Korean.
This launch comes as competition in the wearables space intensifies, with Snap recently unveiling its own smart glasses, Specs, priced at $2,195. Meta and EssilorLuxottica hold an estimated market share of over 80% in the smart glasses sector.
