Imagi, an education technology company founded in 2018, has announced a $4.5 million seed funding round. The company provides K-12 students and teachers with tools for teaching coding, basic computer skills, and AI literacy. Investors in the round include Brighteye Ventures, Day One Capital, and artist Wil.i.am.
Last November, Imagi partnered with the vibe coding tool Lovable to enable teachers to create AI lessons with controlled student access. OpenAI has supported this initiative by providing $1 million in credits, allowing schools to use the Imagi x Lovable tool for free. This collaboration aims to ensure the safe deployment of AI in classrooms, with all prompts and responses screened before reaching students.
Imagi emphasizes teaching children to build with AI rather than passively consume it, addressing concerns about AI's impact on future job markets. The platform is compliant with COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR, ensuring no data retention and that student data is not used for training by partners. Teachers are also trained on how to confidently use and teach these AI and coding tools.
Since its inception, Imagi has reached over 700,000 students in 140 countries. The newly acquired capital will be allocated to scaling into more K-12 schools, investing in district sales and hiring, developing new product features, and launching a new platform next month.
