NewLimit, a longevity biotech startup co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, has successfully raised $435 million in a Series C funding round, led by Founders Fund. This funding brings the company's post-money valuation to $3.1 billion, more than tripling its valuation from less than a year prior. The startup's core focus is on reversing cellular aging through epigenetic reprogramming, utilizing transcription factors to reset gene expression in aged cells. The delivery method employs lipid nanoparticles, similar to those used in mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. While NewLimit has completed preclinical work, including cell screens and animal studies, it has not yet tested its drugs in humans. The company aims to file for its first clinical trial in 2027, with an initial focus on alcohol-related liver disease, as well as the immune system and vasculature. The significant valuation is based on this preclinical progress. NewLimit was co-founded in 2022 by Brian Armstrong, Blake Byers, and Jacob Kimmel, who previously worked at Alphabet's longevity research lab, Calico. The company has no connection to crypto or blockchain technology, representing a traditional venture capital investment in biotech.
