Clicks Technology has unveiled a new hands-on video of its upcoming Clicks Communicator, a smartphone designed to evoke the experience of using a BlackBerry. The device, priced at $499, features a tactile, touch-sensitive physical keyboard below a screen, catering to users who prioritize texting and emailing on their phones.
Beyond its retro design, the Communicator incorporates modern innovations such as a customizable "Signal Light" on the side that can be set to different colors and patterns for specific contacts, groups, or applications. Additional features include swappable back covers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a physical SIM tray alongside eSIM support, and expandable microSD storage up to 2TB.
The company aims to attract users seeking a less distracting smartphone experience, partnering with Niagara Launcher for access to Android apps. The Signal Light is intended to allow users to ignore their phones unless a critical notification appears. Clicks plans to ship the device in the fourth quarter of this year.
During CES, a prototype of the Communicator was handled and found to be well-sized and easy to grip, with a keyboard that offered a satisfying click. The company indicated that future videos would delve deeper into specific features like the Signal Light and Prompt Key.
